Seth had avoided the pack, avoided Edward, and avoided Jacob for the past week. He had made up his mind. There was no changing it; he wouldn't give them that chance. His fingers didn't even shake as he loaded the single bullet into the chamber of the gun.
"You aren't wanted kid. You aren't needed." Paul's words had hurt but what had hurt worse was the snippets of agreement he had caught from the others as he had run away. What had hurt the most was that Jacob agreed. He had thought Jacob loved him. That's what he had said after their first time…
Seth gripped his cell phone, a gift from Edward that past Christmas. He was such a stupid kid. He had believed Jacob! No, he wouldn't cry now. He didn't need to cry anymore. Seth pressed the #2 and then Send, he brought the phone up to his ear and waited listening to the ring.
"Seth? Long time no hear buddy! Where ya been?" Jacob questioned. His voice was happy. In the background Seth could hear Edward talking to Jasper. That was why Jacob was happy; he was with the two Cullen's he loved best. Loved more than him. "Seth?"
Seth swallowed hard. "I just…I just wanted to tell you goodbye." He cursed himself for his voice shaking.
"Goodbye? What are you talking about?" Jacob questioned.
"Just goodbye Jake." Seth dropped his phone into the sand ignoring it as Jacob called his name. He cocked the gun and held it so the barrel rested against his bottom lip. The metal was cool as it touched his tongue, bitter from the past gunpowder.
"Seth? Seth!"
The beach was quiet except for the waves crashing against the beach and the gunshot that echoed after the trigger was pulled.
