Author's Note: Okay, so, I did the one-shot with Jack and Robin (The Immortal Captain Jack Sparrow, if you're wondering), and I realized that I had to do more! So, here it is: the first chapter of my new story! This will be the first of a trilogy (in my universe, disregard OST). I hope you enjoy!
Disclaimer: While it would be amazing (if very different) if I owned Pirates of the Caribbean, I regret to say that I don't.
Bold are chapter titles, italics are thoughts, and bold italics are ship names.
Of Robins and Sparrows
Chapter 1
Robin Smith sat dozing in her cell at Port Royal. She had been caught holding a dagger to a man's throat in a local tavern. While she had attempted to explain that he had been groping her, the guards were so by-the-book that they wouldn't listen. The dark-haired, hazel-eyed woman just thanked her lucky stars that they hadn't found out she was a pirate.
Just then, her cell door opened and an unconscious man was thrown in. "A cell mate for you," one of the guards said curtly. Robin pushed her hair back and stood up. If she had been wearing a hat, what with the way she was dressed she could be mistaken easily for a man. She walked over to the comatose man and knelt down next to him. Robin's hawk-like gaze automatically noted the large welt forming on the back of his head. Careful not to upset the lump, she turned him over.
Immediately, Robin noticed the white "P" branded on his right forearm. She winced in sympathy and rubbed her upper left arm. Several years ago, she had had the same symbol branded on her. Robin continued her examination, hoping the pirate wasn't injured too badly, although she didn't know why she cared. As she brushed the dust off his vest, she noticed that once you got past the dreadlocks and the jewelry, he was actually quite handsome.
Robin was about to pull his sleeve down to prevent her from seeing the brand when his eyes snapped open and he grabbed her wrist. Robin was instantly on her guard. She didn't know who he was or how he might react.
The man flashed her a cheeky smile and said, "Hello, luv. It's been a long time since I woke up next to a woman."
Glaring, Robin yanked her arm away. "Enjoy my company while you can. You'll be on your way to the gallows come sunrise."
"Well," he replied, sitting up, "at least we can get to know each other. What's your name, lass?"
Robin sat back in her corner and muttered, "Robin Smith. You?"
He pulled his hat down over his eyes as he settled next to the bars of the cell. "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow."
Robin looked at him curiously. "You are the infamous Captain Jack Sparrow?" she asked in disbelief.
"Yes," he answered. "Is that so shocking?"
Robin shrugged. "I just thought you'd be older. You're barely more than a lad, and yet you call me 'lass' like I'm a child."
Jack had no response to this, so Robin knew she'd been correct in her assumption. He couldn't be more than 29, and yet he was apparently a captain. Even then, he looked younger than he actually was.
Robin rubbed her eyes with sleepiness. She hadn't slept properly in days. Carefully, she arranged herself in a somewhat comfortable position.
Just as she shut her eyes, Robin remembered whose company she was in. "If you so much as move to touch me, I will save the hangman the trouble and strangle you myself."
Jack chuckled and replied, "I don't doubt ye, luv. I'll leave ye be." His readiness to agree surprised Robin, but she didn't complain. As she was drifting off to sleep, she heard Jack murmur, "Sleep well, Robin."
