A fic I never thought I'd write... For the TV Prompt Challenge. It's really short, because I suddenly had to leave halfway through the fic and was out of the mood once I'd returned.
Prompt: The Office - Casual Friday. It doesn't have too much to do with a CASUAL Friday, but I'm hoping that isn't too bad. I've never done anything like this before, but there's nothing in the rules that says it's forbidden.

Longingly, she looked at the clock above the coffee machine for the third time in five minutes. Time seemed to go by slower and slower every time she checked it. Two hours until she could leave... One and a half... One and a quarter...

Mentally willing the clock to go faster, she looked back at the mountain of paperwork on her desk. She knew she should be focusing on that, not on some stupid clock, but her mind kept wandering off to the night that lay ahead.

Emily had never thought she would be one of those women, those women who got anxious for a simple date a week before the actual event and obsessed over everything the man did. Yet, here she was, trying to figure out if he was looking forward to it as much as she was.

She hadn't seen much of him today; it was one of those days where they didn't have a case and they were all required to do paperwork and simple consults instead. Though she didn't mind not having a case, for once not being confronted with the worst of humanity, her own impatience frustrated her. Compartmentalizing didn't work this time; he was always on her mind, no matter how much she tried to ban him into the corner she had marked 'personal life'.

"So, what's everyone doing this weekend?" Derek asked, breaking the unusual silence that hung over the bullpen. They usually made plans, even if there was a chance they wouldn't be able to make them come true.

"I'm going to read two books by David Kirschner about the relations between adoption and murder," Reid replied, vague and yet enthusiastic. Emily grinned at the boy's enthusiasm. It was so... Reid to get excited about books exploring serial killers.

"What about you, Em?" Derek asked, a grin on his face. Suddenly Emily knew why he had asked that particular question.

"The usual," she replied casually. "Dinner, a movie and staying in." She wasn't exactly lying, she decided; there would be a dinner and most likely a movie, preferably at one of their homes. And there was no way she was going to get up early on her free day. Especially if he chose to stay over. Before her mind could dwell any further, she focused on Derek's voice.

"With anyone in particular?" he asked innocently. Emily kept her eyes on him.

"Maybe," she answered non-committally with a shrug. She refused to give him the satisfaction.

"Ah, Emily..." Derek said, mock angry. "Tell me, who's the lucky man?"

"Who says it's a man," Emily teased back, seeing Derek's eyes widen slightly. But he didn't give in.

"Who's the lucky person?" he said, still mocking.

"What do you care?" She really wasn't going to say.

Thankfully, Hotch walked into the bullpen before Derek could reply. My saviour, she thought gratefully. Derek was skilled enough to get it out of her anyway, and that would be embarrassing.

"You can all go home now," he told them. "There's a mandatory meeting for all agents working in counter-terrorism and everyone else can leave."

Derek cheered, took his coat and left without another word, probably ready to go out and have some fun. Reid, too, quickly left, muttering something about adoptions. Soon, it was only Emily and Hotch left. He looked at her.

"Ready to go?" he asked, not wasting another minute.

Emily nodded. "You bet," she answered.

Told you it's sudden. So what do you think?

Oh, and let's pretend that those things by David Kirschner (they do exist) are actual books and not just studies, which I only find out after I'd written it.
