King Xellos's Kingdom
Long ago, there was a kingdom ruled by a selfish man named King Xellos. All he ever thought about was how he could become the best king in the world.
To do that, he decided that no one should be allowed to leave the kingdom, that way if anyone did anything to break the law they could not get away. That way the criminals would be caught and there would be less crime.
This made the townspeople very sad because now they could not visit their family or talk with their friends that lived in other kingdoms.
When King Xellos saw that the people were not happy he became quite confused, so he asked his wife, the queen, for advice.
Kara? I have done my best to make everyone happy, but now everyone is sad... what did I do wrong?
Well, replied Queen Kara, If you are trying to figure out why they are sad, why not ask them yourself? They, better than anyone, can tell you what's wrong.
Why should I listen to her? I know what will make them happy money! The king thought to himself. Then he went out and gave one thousand dollars to each person, even the children! But they still weren't happy.
By this time the king was furious! His sons, Prince Zelgadis, cried, Please speak to our subjects, they are miserable! All you have to do is find out what it is they want. Xellos yelled back, "Fine! I'll do it..."
The next day everything was back to normal. When Prince Zelgadis asked him how he did it, his only reply (as he held up one finger) was, That is a secret! But in truth, what he had done was compromise
