One Hot Afternoon
Just a short one-shot to inject interest in writing fanfic again for myself.
It is funny how life in Seigaku revolved around the tennis team, and how life in the tennis team revolved around one freshman. Ok, scrap that. Make that two. Two freshmen. You see, one day, Syuusuke Fuji was finally satisfied that Ryuuzaki Sakuno would make the perfect companion for his little, charming (Ryoma grossly begs to differ), disinterested Prince so much so that his smile grew even wider as he lounged around a tennis bench under a huge shady tree.
It was a hot afternoon and the team was taking a break. Nonwithstanding the two year 2s who had gone off squabbling, saddled with the task of filling the waterbottles, the rest were lounging around, too hot and disinterested to do anything.
"Saa... Isn't that Ryuuzaki Sakuno?"
Eiji squinted hard into the distance. "Nya Fuji, how would you know? Nya! It's too hot to do anything! Ooooooishiiiiiiiii!" He cried out and bounded off with the vice-captain into the much cooler tennis room.
But Fuji wasn't interested in the answer since he knew it, anyway. He just asked casually to see if he got a reaction from anyone, well, maybe just his little, charming, disinterested Prince. And true enough, Ryoma Echizhen, who had been sitting on the concrete floor and was fanning himself with his cap had looked up for the slightest moment, and continued fanning himself.
"Pfft." Was all he could manage as he gulped his Ponta. Curse the weather. He fanned himself absent-mindedly and looked into the distance. What could Ryuuzaki Sakuno be doing out in this weather? Picking tennis balls? He pitied her, really. Such weather was punishing and it was inhumane to let his Sakuno be picking balls. Wait a minute, did he just say his? He stopped fanning himself and furrowed his eyebrows. He gave a nonchalant shrug and continued fanning himself.
Fuji's interest was piqued after observing the freshman. It was interesting how the younger one fanned himself, as though the fanning told his story. Really, Ryoma was too simple and was so …. Readable. Fuji caught himself there and then, banishing the word "delectable". In the distance, Ryuuzaki Sakuno was still picking tennis balls. Poor girl, she did everything so slowly. But it was okay, for Fuji at least.
Inui watched the little exchange, somewhat confused. He wasn't too sure what Fuji was thinking about. Fuji and Sakuno was all he could manage in his notebook as he pondered what to write next. He drew a triangle next. Fuji, Sakuno and Ryoma. Now, he just needed to place the names correctly but that was tough, even for Inui.
Ryoma started to fan himself, and stopped, for a long time. Ryuuzaki was bending down, and unbeknown to the poor girl, her panties were showing in the tight white tennis skirt she was wearing.
"Saa… pretty sight isn't it?" Fuji's lazy drawl came. And he did the unthinkable then. "Sakuno-Chan! Ryoma thinks your panties are cute!" He shouted halfway across the tennis court. He grinned at Ryoma, who by now had dropped his cap, and stared at his sempai in shock.
"Saa, hot day eh."
"FUJI-SEMPAI!!!!!!"
And halfway across the court, Ryuuzaki Sakuno looked up and stared into the distance at the tennis bench.
"Ano, did someone call my name?"
Reviews are muchly appreciated.
