Summary: It has been 14 years since the fire and Meredith finally decides to kill the men who took her little girl from her, but before she can something or someone changes everything. This is an AU story. Claire never found Meredith.
Meredith Gordon stood outside the home of Noah Bennet, watching, waiting. It had been 14 years since he and his partner had killed her baby girl. After years of grieving, she finally decided to take action; she was going to kill the men who took her little girl from her.
Since the invisible man was nowhere to be found Noah was the next best thing. It was early enough, she thought, that no one would be awake. Meredith had dreamed about this day for years, and today it was actually happening. Meredith snuck around to the back of the house. The door was locked –no surprise- so she melted the knob. Then she quickly went inside to find no one moving about. Meredith quietly tip-toed into what looked like an office and closed the door.
The room was empty. She looked around and saw pictures of dogs and ribbons hanging everywhere. She couldn't believe it. The monster who killed her baby …was a show dog breeder? She shook it off and kept looking. Another picture caught her eye. It was of Noah and a teenager. She'd never seen her before but something was so familiar, but before she could figure it out she heard footsteps.
Meredith quickly ran behind the door. Noah came in tiredly and rubbed his eyes. She quietly snuck behind him and lit her hand, "Don't move" she said sternly. Noah put his arms in the air, "I have money in my wallet", he said faking a scared tone. She laughed a little "I don't want your money, turn around", she commanded. Noah did as he was told.
"Do you remember me!? Do you remember what you did to me!?" Meredith said angrily. Noah looked her over. "Should I?" he asked confused. "You're the man who killed my baby, my little girl" she said with a mix of anger and sadness. Noah's face looked calm but on the inside he was freaking out. He gulped a little, "You're that woman from that apartment in Kermit", he said and noticed where Claire got her eyes from. "Yes. You came in at night and attacked me and killed my daughter!" she said enraged. Noah sighed, "I am so sorry we were just following orders." "ORDERS!? Did you have orders to kill my-" Meredith was cut off by a small knock at the door.
"Dad it's me." Claire said. Noah's eyes grew wide for a second then he looked at Meredith. "It's my daughter." he said with a sincere look. Meredith, not wanting anyone else to get hurt, stopped her ability and stepped back. "Come in" he called out. Claire opened the door and walked in, and immediately noticed Meredith. "Oh I'm sorry I didn't know you had company" Claire said. Noah smiled, "Its fine she's just someone from work." Meredith looked at Claire and faked smiled. "Oh well I just wanted to say bye before I went to school" Claire said smiling as she walked over to him. Noah smiled and hugged her, "Have a good day at school." Claire smiled and hugged back, "I will, love you." Noah smiled and kissed her head, "Love you too Claire bear."
Meredith was caught off guard. It all made sense now. The picture, the name everything. But it couldn't be. She stared at Claire. Claire smiled and walked out the door and out to her car and drove off. Noah's smile faded. "Did she just say her name was Claire?" Meredith asked sadly. Noah closed his eyes for a second, then opened them and turned to face her. "We really need to talk."
