Beyond the mirror- based on the 2004 movie Phantom of the Opera
Darkness shrouded the phantom of the opera's lair as he watched his beloved Christine sail off with the man she so desired, Raoul. The phantom's heart felt as cold as ice as his hand made gondola took them farther and farther away- never to be seen again. Then he heard them- the mob that had followed Meg Giry down to his dungeon of his black despair. Quickly he grabbed the nearest item towards him- one of his candelabras which rested near the workbench at which he had plotted so many schemes, so many songs, so many dreams. He then turned to his many mirrors, all of which stared back at him emotionlessly- no love found in anyone. Rushing to each one he smashes the candelabra into each once, then twice. With each blow he used up a little of his anger he felt towards those around him- Raoul for stealing Christine, the world for misunderstanding him and therefore giving him no chance at a real life. He destroyed 2 mirrors until he found what he was looking for- His emergency escape route! Quickly he steps inside, blocking its view by a red velvet curtain. Walking through darkness and cold, he makes his way through the tunnel. Only once did he panic, which was only because he had tripped and almost felt that someone had heard him. However when he turned to see if they had, he was safe. He finished going through the tunnel which had led to his own little shelter-within-a-shelter, one so secret that even Madam Giry had no idea it existed. Inside lay a small bed, table, candles and a few matches- all left there for an emergency such as this. Then- turning- he closes the entrance with a camouflaged door, and by doing so, closing his life off to the outside world forever. He no longer wanted part of it- he wanted love and found none, life and found hatred. Now at last he was through, no more would he want- he had given up. Suddenly he hears the one thing that could make this perhaps the worst day of her life - a rap at the now concealed entrance! Who on earth would want to look upon this disgrace of a being? Couldn't let him die in peace and solitude? Thoughts raced through his head as the door slowly opened to reveal little Meg Giry. "Phantom, are you alright? I came here to let you know that the mob has stopped searching for you." she said in a quiet tone.
The phantom gave her a hard look, "why would you care of a beast such as I? I'm not even worthy of rats to eat on my flesh as my corpse rots away!"
At this meg cried out, never before has the phantom spoken like this, he never went as far as this!! "you are worthy!" she cried, "everyday I've watched you suffer from a far, never letting you know how I feel. Well now I'm coming clean- I love you dearest phantom of the opera!!!"
The phantom stared in shock as meg rushed over and hugged his masculine frame. A warmth spread through his chest as he hugged her back. "All this time, you were right under my nose," he whispered in her ear, "if you had come forward sooner, I would never had gotten us in this mess and we'd be together, living a happier life."
She looked into his eyes and replied, crying slightly, "I know, but you were head over heels in love with Christine, I couldn't get in your way. At least she was making you happy."
He shook his head, "what would make me happier would be to be with one that had the same emotions for me as I did for her, and now that is possible."
With that he kissed her, letting their fears drown in the darkness surrounding them, knowing that no matter what happened now, they'd always be together.
