No Breach of Trust
Secret Smile. What might have happened if Brendan hadn't snuck a peek into Miranda's diary.
After working on the Web site a bit that day, Brendan remembered the shelves in Miranda's flat. He remembered that he took her spare key and decided to surprise her. He grabbed his drill, hammer, and battery-powered screwdriver and went over to her place. After pouring himself a glass of wine, he went to work.
When he was about a little over halfway through, the battery on his screwdriver died. He cursed his poor planning and set about finding some AA batteries; he would replace them later. He found them in a junk drawer in the kitchen.
Just as he finished, Miranda came home. She was certainly surprised, if not a little alarmed. Brendan greeted her with a smile and a kiss and offered some wine.
"How did you get in?" she asked with alarm in her voice.
"I took the spare key this morning," he explained calmly as he poured himself another glass of wine.
"You didn't ask," she scolded him.
"I'm here all the time, I don't see the problem," he explained, taking a sip.
"No, I just prefer to know if you're coming around," Miranda explained. Brendan apologized, promised that it wouldn't happen again, and then pointed out that he put up her shelves.
"Thanks," she replied, and said that she had to go out.
"All right, then, sweetheart. I'll talk to you tomorrow," he replied. the tall, skinny scot then opened his arms to proffer a hug, and she accepted. He kissed her forehead and told her to have a good time as he collected his tools and put on his coat. Something ate at him to tell her how he truly felt, but he decided to put off until later.
