"Conner McKnight it is not funny!" Kira hit his arm as the red ranger laughed hysterically next to her.
"I'm … sorry, but…" He kept laughing and his head hit the table in the middle of Hayley's Cyberspace with a dull thud. Kira gave up and leaned back against her chair, and couldn't help but grin at the amusement he found. After a few minutes of laughing he straightened himself and tried to look at Kira again, but couldn't help but grin.
"Are you done yet?" The yellow ranger asked, stirring her smoothie with its bright red straw absently. Conner sat up and coughed lightly.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm ok." He said still smiling. "I can just picture you and that monster." He lapsed back into laughter while Kira rolled her eyes at him and leaned back again. Conner composed himself for a second time and glanced over to the door to see Trent walk in and over to the counter. He saw Kira's eyes follow his movements before turning back to his own. "Sorry about that." He smiled his classic smile. "I just wonder, what made you dream the monster, well, loved you?" He leaned forward ever so slightly.
Kira's hand that was stirring her smoothie froze and her face drifted into a thoughtful stare into nothing. After a while she spoke. "I'm not sure."
"Well, I've heard dreams imitate how we're feeling." Conner said softly, praying she wouldn't hear the hope in his voice. "Like the fact it was a reptile, and my dream I was fighting a Christmas monster." He winced at the memory of the horrible dream. None of them had gotten any sleep, so Ethan had gone home to try and get some, but both Conner and Kira decided to hang out at the café for a while.
"Maybe." She whispered, still staring off into space.
"What about your feelings for Trent?" Conner prodded gently.
"Nah," Kira sat up and adjusted her shirt before leaning back again, "Trent and I decided to stay friends a long time ago." Conner's heart leapt in his chest. Kira and Trent were only friends, but then, her dream…
"If you were subconsciously thinking about love, who were you thinking about?"
Kira's absently minded stirring of her smoothie stopped and she looked directly into Conner's eyes. His face was serious as he asked the question and Kira knew she couldn't just let it go.
"You." Her voice was soft and her eyes glistened with odd hope. Conner's heart did a funny flip and he stood up quickly and grabbed her hand. She didn't make any move to stop him as he dragged her through the road and to a secluded part of the park. He let go and went a few paces in front of her and ran his fingers through his hair.
Kira watched him with confusion in her eyes but Conner was staring away wildly, trying to comprehend what was going on. She had just told him that she loved him. Kira loved him. "Conner?" Her voice was soft and scared behind him. He turned and saw her looking at him with scared eyes. Without a second thought he closed the distance between them and kissed her.
Her lips were really soft against his but the fervor was overwhelming as they kissed. Her hands snaked around his neck and pulled him closer and his own arms moved around her small waist. She pulled out of the kiss and took a deep breath, and stared right into his eyes. "Wow." He said softly, not releasing his grip on her.
"Wow is right." She murmured, looking up at him, trying to catch her breath. "I was scared you'd freak out."
"Me? Freak out?" Conner grinned, lowering his face just enough so his nose was pressed against her forehead. Kira closed her eyes as he pulled her into his arms tighter as she rested her head on his chest. "Kira, I've liked you for a while." He murmured against her hair.
"So all this time…"
"I was pretending." He rubbed her back gently.
"No more pretending." She whispered softly, holding onto him.
"No more."
