When my daddy was watching the news,

Another soldier had died, and he began to cry,

So I asked if he had known him, and he said no,

But that someone had,

And that the soldier had been somebody's someone.

That he had been a neighbor, a husband, or a brother

Perhaps a daddy like me, or a mother's only son,

Maybe he was an uncle, a cousin, or even just a friend,

But he shall forever be remembered as a hero.

Because he was somebody's someone,

And even if they never know he shall always be our hero.

He began as a stranger to all of us,

We hadn't know he was fighting for our freedom,

Until now when he is only a memory, and a picture on TV

But we shall always remember his as our hero,

And we may never know the pain of losing one so great,

But we can always help to remember and cherish a memory.

Daddy promised me a Fairy-tale,

And taught me the melody,

But now there's no one to sing with,

No one to listen, or sing to me,

No one to tuck me in a night,

But I know he shall forever be a considered a hero.

Because he did our country a great deed,

He went to fight for us, mommy and me,

He fought for us to show that life has knights in shining armor,

Armor of Kevlar and camouflage…but armor all the same,

Now I understand why Daddy promised me a Fairy-tale,

Because he knew he would go to fight,

And the fight was supposed to lead to a happy ending,

But instead we keep finding sad things,

The explosions that leave us with only memories,

Or the children that are left with even less,

The times are ruff but we can make it through.

I just wish Daddy was here.

But I'll give him a Fairy-tale ending…

Just for him.
