Wannabe heroes were as thick as thieves in her world, but they never cared who their efforts might help, hurt, or even kill. They wanted the fame and fortune heroics would bring which was the only reason why they could be bothered to pretend to do right.
Perhaps, Belle reflects, watching her love, that's what originally endeared her to Rumpelstiltskin. True, he's no hero, but he's also never pretended to be one. He doesn't desire fame or fortune like most; nor does he lie about who and what he is. He is what he is; that's perfectly fine by her.
