A/N This is a drabble about the steps it took for Canada to become a country. My four OC's are New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, who are girls, and Newfoundland and Prince Edward Island, who are boys. I'd like to thank Mika Nakane, my beta-reader, for doing such a great job at editing this. :)

"The new name of your country will be 'The Dominion of Canada'."
Britain had ended their conference with those words, and Canada could see a silver of regret in his father's eyes. Sure, this was nothing like when America left, but he was becoming an independent nation regardless.
London was a gloomy place to be in the middle of December, yet that was exactly where they were. United Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick had come to London to have the British North America bill passed by Britain. It was a tedious, long process that had begun on December 3rd, 1866 and was still only approved a year later on March 29th.
With his head held high, Canada boarded the large ship that would take him and his two siblings back to their homeland. Now that he reflected on it, his new name was ultimately the result of the decision he'd made years ago.
The London Conference was the last of three conferences that had decided his confederation. It hadn't even involved him, at first. The Maritimes- New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island, his three younger siblings- had originally wanted to unite in order to have a larger government. Britain had encouraged it as well, reasoning that one large colony would be easier to maintain than three smaller ones.
"It's finally happened. We're independent!" New Brunswick laughed, clapping her hands in glee. Canada smiled and patted his younger sister's head. "We did it much more peacefully than America, as well." he reflected bitterly.
"It's a shame that P.E.I. didn't join us." Nova Scotia scoffed. "Same with Newfoundland. Oh well, they probably will in the future."
The first conference was in Charlottetown in September, 1864, and only for the Maritime siblings, but United Canada had requested to join in. At the conference, he has suggested that the Maritime Provinces unify with Canada- something that they had seemed approving of. They all desired to improve their defense after the threats of America's civil war, and after Britain had withdrawn all his troops to fight in the Crimean War. A common motive to unify seemed appealing.
It led into the second Québec Conference a month later, which Newfoundland was also invited to. They discussed the government, and the mode of representation for it, which ended by creating the Québec Resolutions (the 72 resolutions).
The final was the one that the newly formed Dominion of Canada had walked out of. They had named the decisions made the "British North America Act", and Canada was delighted.
...oOo...
It was his birthday.
His first birthday, as a nation. Colonies never celebrated such an occasion, leaving Canada amazed when an entire day of every year was dedicated to him. He had worked rigorously alongside his government leaders to put together the Constitution. And it finally entered the government that day, naming July 1st the birthdate of a new nation.
Watching his citizens cheer, looking so proud...
He couldn't be happier.
A/N This was for an English assignment. It IS historically accurate, except for the absence of Nation Personifications in reality (although we'll never know...). The only mistake in here is that he was actually called "United Canada" (the union of East and West Canada), but that was a long title, so...
Thanks for reading ^_^
