Waiting

They were green eyes that he had last seen when he had taken his final breath. He had asked the son of the man he hated, the son that he wanted but never had, the son of the woman he loved with everything that was in him to see what was left of the woman he always loved. It was green eyes that greeted him when he woke.

The two of them were on the platform, one that he had not traveled on for an uncounted amount of years. The platform was vacant save for the pair. The train had yet to arrive.

He took a seat next to her, his eyes fixed on her the entire time. He stared at her, dark eyes taking in the sight of her. He wanted to (no, he corrected himself, he needed to) imprint every curve and line of her face and body until he could see her even with his eyes closed.

It had been so long since he had been with her.

Lily was beautiful, as always. She looked as she did when the two of them were enrolled at Hogwarts; before they had fallen apart and he had lost the one person who had meant more to him than his life and soul.

Lily's silky red hair flowed around her face, loose waves that brought out the contours of her face and made the green in her eyes stand out. Lily's eyes were the color of the rarest jewel, the color of earth and life, the color of curse and death, the color of a potion known to enthrall, the color of a love Severus never managed to shake off, a love he never forgot.

"I have been waiting for you," Lily said. Severus forgot how light her voice was, like air. "I have been waiting for awhile."

"Where am I?" Severus had actually wanted to ask Lily 'are you real?' but the question was unable to escape his mouth.

"We," Lily corrected, "are at the platform waiting for the train to take us to our next great adventure."

Severus thought about apologizing to her then, as he tried to do in the past. To tell her that he was sorry for hurting her, that it was the worst moment in his life. However, the words are stuck in him and he was unable to apologize to Lily.

There was only silence between them. The train that was scheduled to take them away did not arrive yet, so they waited for it together. Severus' eyes never left her.

"There is something you want to ask," there was confidence in her voice, as if she was able to read his mind. Severus hesitated. He knew of the question she wanted him to ask. However, he was afraid of the answers that might come.

She was patient with him. She waited for him to gain the courage to ask. It seemed like hours until he finally does.

"If I had asked," his voice was slow and unsteady, "would you have loved me?"

"Yes," there was with no hesitation in her voice, only truth. Something inside of him seemed to grow lighter, the heavy weight in him now gone. "I loved you even when you did not ask."

"Why?"

"You are more deserving than you think."

They sat in silence again; the train was no where in sight.

"Would you love me now?"

"Yes Severus, I would."

I need Severus to have a happy ending. I really do. After reading book 7, my entire mind is filled with is Severus and his love for Lily. I would imagine that he hated Harry because Harry was the child he had always wanted but never had – a child with his mother's eyes and his father's features.

Severus needs a happy ending. I hope more people give it to him. His life really sucked.
