7 Minutes
She's half way to the "leaving Storybrooke" sign when her whole world shifts and she realizes the mistake she has made. When the whole night flashes before her eyes and makes her realize that 7 minutes ago she lost the girl of her dreams. That's when she steps on her brakes, and heads back into town.
It wasn't even just tonight, the past 6 months for Emma had just been horrible, and Emma being Emma never accepted help from anyone. Therefore her self-destructive tendencies where back full force. Didn't matter that now she had a whole family to help her through whatever her issue was, a family that included her son, her parents, and the love of her life. She still felt like that scared little girl all alone in the world, and she didn't know how to stop being that little girl, when alone is all she has ever really known.
30 minutes ago, the last 6 months blew up in her face, and 7 minutes ago she realized exactly what she did wrong. She's driving past The Rabbit Hole when her tears start. She remembers that night 2 years ago when a night of drinks and pool, turned into stolen kisses and caresses. She remembers how her mom and Regina were supposed to help her forget about a failed engagement she never really wanted in the first place. You seen she's always wanted chocolate brown rather than deep blue, and nobody really ever understood that. She also remembers that Regina stopped her after their first kiss in fear that Emma was just acting out of fear of being alone and too much Jack Daniels. So they called it a night and regrouped the following week for a true date. The funny thing is that they never made the movie at the end of their dinner; they were too busy talking and stealing kisses in the parking lot to worry about the drama playing inside on the big screen. And that's how their love chapter began.
A block later Chasing Cars starts playing on the radio. Years ago that songs had no meaning, but now a days it reminds her of simpler times seating in the study by the window drinking home made apple sider. Nights were they would talk and end up drunk because Regina's sider always crept up on them with no warning and who is measuring the glasses when all you're doing is laughing. These were Emma's favorite nights because there was always something new to learn about Regina. It's how she found out that Regina's fascination with apples came from her abuelita. She would spend summers at her grandparent's castle and help tend to the tress and pick the best apples for pie. She also learned that Henry sir loved his daughter dearly, and while he was never able to stand up to his wife for their daughter, he made sure than in any other aspect of her life Regina had the best things in life. That's how Daniel came into her life; he was the best hostler in the land and her father made sure he would be taking care of Regina's horse. Looking back on all this she realizes that Regina truly opened up about so many things, she now knows so many secrets no one else does, to gain that kind of trust from Regina is a huge deal. So how did she go so wrong that she lost the woman she loves most. She wonders if it's too late to turn around and apologize.
It all clicks eventually, and after several tears and circles around town she shows up at Mifflin Street. She stands at the gate unable to move and head up the path. She wonders if Regina will even still be there, if she'll even care that Emma was almost gone, but most of all she wonders if she'll forgive her for the biggest mistake of them all, forgetting to love her.
