Reflection…literally

I stare at you.
You stare back.
I tilt my head.
So do you.
I frown and say, do I know you?
You do the same, but though your mouth moves, there is no sound.
Angry, I scream, ANSWER ME!
You scowl, but don't scream back.
Silence.
We contemplate each other.
Then I realize that I do know you.
I always have.
Or think I do.
Eager, I reach out to touch you.
You finally smile and extend you right hand to touch my left, your left to touch my right.
They touch.
But I don't touch you.
They seem to touch.
But I know they don't.
Glass and guilt , all on my part, is the barrier between us.
Now you're just a reflection.
Me.
I think to know you.
I know I don't.
Not anymore.
Then…
Do I know myself?
We share a rueful smile.
No, I don't.
