Dean had quietly left the barbecue going on outside in the garden. It wasn't that he didn't enjoy the company of his friends and co-workers. There was just something else on his mind. He needed to see her. He needed to put his mind to rest. And now he stood there alone in her room, looking down at her, her bright blue eyes staring up at him as if she wondered who this strange man was.
"Dean..." Skye's soft voice reached him.
He turned his head and looked at her standing in the open door. He didn't realize he had tears in his eyes. She closed the door behind her and walked over to stand next to him, looking down at the blue eyed girl as well.
"She's beautiful," he said.
"Thanks," she said.
He took a deep breath before asking the one thing he needed to know.
"She's mine, isn't she?" He asked. "She has my eyes. Both you and Tye have brown eyes."
"Of course," she answered. "I never lied about that. You're the one who refused to believe it when I told you I was pregnant."
"I was hearing all kinds of stories about you and Tye. What was I supposed to believe?" He asked.
"Me. You were supposed to believe me," she answered.
"And still you ended up with him," he tried his best to keep his anger contained, not wanting the blue eyed child, his child, to see him mad.
"After you left me, Dean. He was there for me when you left me, he was there for me for every doctor's appointment, he was there for me in the hospital when I gave birth, he was there for me when you weren't," she said.
"I was scared, Skye," he said.
"So was I, Dean, but I didn't get the chance at running away and hiding. You made your choice. Now live with it," she said.
He took her hand, gently caressing it while seeking out her brown eyes.
"Is there any chance for us...?" He asked, not finishing the question.
"No," she answered.
He slowly nodded as he accepted defeat.
"And her?" He asked, pointing his free hand at the child watching them.
"You're welcome if you wanna be there for her but it's not just once in a while, Dean. It's all the way. You either step up to be her father or you stay away completely. I won't have her hurting because you don't know what you want," she said.
Again he nodded as he raised her hand to kiss the back of it.
"A part of me will always love you, Skye, and I'll never forgive myself for what I did and what I'm about to do," he said and took one last look down at the girl. "Tye will love her the way I never can."
With those words he walked over to the door, opened it and came face to face with Tye. He nodded at the man who not only had his woman but also his child and continued down the hall, out of the house, away from them.
"Are you okay?" Tye asked as he walked up to her and placed his arm around her shoulders.
"I will be," she said and wiped away the tears. "We will be. You, me and our little princess."
"Daddy's princess," he said and smiled down at the child.
