Fractions with Captain Nemo
By MeatLoaf the Happy Donkey

[MeatLoaf's Note: This is actually a math project. I'm pretty sure I messed up on the fractions part so don't expect to learn anything. I got an A+ on this thing and I passed the math class so it doesn't really matter if I can do fraction stuff, right? Right????? I think I would have been better off doing a project on integers. I can do those things, but not fractions. (By the way, I do realize that Captain Nemo is actually 40 or maybe even 50 years old. In this story he is 24 because all my imaginary friends are 24 years old and he didn't want to be left out. And also 24 is my lucky number.)]

One day Captain Nemo was happily riding around in his yellow submarine. Today is a very special day for Captain Nemo because it is his 24th birthday.
"Happy Birthday to me!" said Captain Nemo.
Happy Birthday Captain Nemo! Oh No, Captain Nemo! Your party starts in 3 hours and you don't have a cake, or ice cream, or anything! What are you going to do?
"I will go to the grocery store!" said Captain Nemo.
That's a great idea, Captain Nemo! We will go to the grocery store and buy cake, ice cream, and other party stuff. Lucky for us your submarine has wheels so we can drive to the grocery store!
Yay! We are at the grocery store! Let's buy chocolate ice cream and chocolate cake. Oh no! We don't know how much cake to buy! All we knoe is there are 6 people coming to your part including me and you. Let's see if the guy hiding in the freezer will help us.
The guy in the freezer says that his name is Hans the Mexican and he will help us. He also says that we will need to divide fractions to solve this. We know that 6 people are coming to your party but only 4 want cake. So that means that only 3/4 of the guests want cake. Cakes are sld with 12 slices so we need to divide 12 by 3/4 to find out haow many slices of cake we need. To divide a fraction we need to multiply by its multiplicative invers so 12-12 x 4/3 = 9. Since each guest who wants cake only wants two slices, we only need 8 slices. But wait! There's one extra! Let's give that one to Hans.
It's almost time for your party, Captain Nemo! Now all you have to do is make party favors. You have 5 pounds of candy and you want to make 3/4 pound bags of candy to give to the guests. You need to multiply 25/5 x 4/3 =6 2/3. That means we can make 6 2/3 bags of candy.
Hurrah Captain Nemo! The guests are arriving and they're bringing presents! Everyone should bring a present for whoever is having a birthday party. But oh no! There are 6 guests but only 5 brought presents!
1/6 of the guests did not bring presents. We know this because 6/6-5/6=1/6. All we did was subtract 5 from 6 and got 1. Now we must figure out who didn't bring a present and kick them out of the party. If they didn't give you an expensive present, they don't deserve to be at your party.
So it was CheesePuff the cow who didn't give you a present! Now she is gone and we can go back to having a party.
Now we must find out what everyone wants to drink and how many cups to get. 3 out of 5 people want lemonade and 2 out of 5 want water. 2/5 + 3/5 = 6/10 so we will only need 5 out of the ten cups that we have. We found this out by adding 2 and 3 and 5 and 5.
Aaaahhhh! It's the end of your party, Captain Nemo! Everyone has to go now, including me. Goodbye, Captain Nemo. I'll see you next year!
"Bye!" said Captain Nemo.
