Legend had seemed to be in shock at her brother's funeral the yesterday. Roy figured she'd want time alone afterwards, so he has just now getting to checking up on her. The other day, she hadn't moved a muscle. She had just stared down at the gravestone, reading it over and over, as if he would come back to life in a matter on minutes. She didn't cry for a while. The tears began to fall when nearly everyone had gone, and it was just him and Havoc left standing with her. Roy's main fear was that she wouldn't be the fun, gorgeous Legend she always had been. He knocked on the door to her large house, the one she and Alec used to share. He planned to go in whether she answered the door or not; Legend have given him a key back in high school. She had to be home. Where else would she be but here?
He sighed, pushing the key into the lock and opening the door. She was probably just asleep or something. "Ledge? Legend, I know you're—" Mustang was cut off by a horrible. He knew her house well enough to know where it had come from. He ran downstairs to the basement. This was one of the few times Mustang had ever heard Legend scream. He began to grow scared of what he'd find once he got to her. Roy slid to a stop outside of the basement door, hand on the doorknob. "Legend, what happened!" He opened the door and saw Legend leaning on the wall near the door, sitting on the ground as if she couldn't get her legs to work. Her eyes were wide in horror.
He was about to crouch beside her when he saw the huge transmutation circle. In the center of it was some... Thing. He didn't know how to describe it. He held back the bile rising in his throat. The thing's screams were rising so loudly that he could barely hear his own thoughts. Roy never would have thought Legend, of all people, would try human transmutation. The thing reached out to her, making a small strangled noise. Legend shrieked, cowering next to the wall. Roy tried to take a step forward, but nearly slipped in something. He leaned down to see what it was, sliding two fingers across the floor. Blood.
He kneeled in front of her, blocking her view of the monster that had once been her kindhearted brother. She closed her eyes, trembling. Through further examination, he realized that the blood all came from one general area. Her left arm was completely gone.
He turned and snapped, setting the remains of Alec on fire. He lifted Legend bridal style, as if she weighed absolutely nothing, and Legend hadn't really seemed to realize he was there yet. She was trembling and sobbing, unable to think straight. She didn't say an intelligible word until after she woke up in hospital. The local automail engineer was one of the best in the business, and had already fitted and attached the automail before she woke up.
She sat up, looking exhausted. She jumped when she saw Roy, obviously startled. Roy started to say something, but stopped when he saw the raw horror in her eyes. "Roy… You caught me, didn't you? You found me doing transmutation… Please, don't tell anyone!" Her voice had dissolved into hysterical sobs, eyes pleading. "I'll get into so much trouble… Roy, I'll lose everything!" She was about to say something else, but Roy silenced her when he embraced her. "Ledge, it's fine. The only other person who knows about it is Maes. You've got nothing to worry about. We just made up some story to cover it up." She just nodded, and mumbled something along the lines of a thank you.
