Nicole Johnson had never quite figured out the definition of normal, though what was normal to her was not always normal to the people around her. Nicole's mother, Ariana, was a fortune teller, and a damn good one at that. She remembered being teased in school because of her "crazy" mother. Nicole also happened to remember how the other children had been told by their parents not to play with her. They didn't want their children consorting with a child whose mother was nutcase. Her father, on the other hand, held a quite normal job; he was a lawyer who had his own firm and therefore worked however he pleased. He was often found locked away in his study, studied books on politics, working on cases, or reading books on famous cases. He was a very intelligent man, a man who you would think would not believe in such things like fortune telling, but he did. That was actually how he met Nicole's mother, Ariana. Nettie Coyle was Ariana's mother, who often went on ghost hunts around the United States. She loved the thrill of walking into a haunted building and experiencing what kind of ghosts or even demons that lived there. When she was little she had been afraid of them, frightened even, but in the end, she grew used to all the ghosts she saw. Nettie of course, still got that eerie feeling from them, but that was normal, you were seeing someone who was dead! Ariana and Nicole had both inherited this gift or curse, however you might take it, from her among other things…

No…Nicole life was not normal. Not normal by any means, but she enjoyed it and she called it normal. It was normal to her. But little did she know that the diary she found in New England would not only turn her life upside down…it might threaten it.
