Chapter One: The Adventure Begins
It was a quiet Monday morning. The sun had just about risen, and the birds outside were chirping away contently at the beginning of a new day. Jiraiya was sat in the kitchen of his modern two-story house, drinking away at his coffee as he read this morning's newspaper that had been delivered to his doorstep earlier. He furrowed is brows at a report about some youths breaking in to an abandoned warehouse and holding an illegal rave over the weekend, but other than that nothing else sparked his interest.
The door bell rang and the silver-haired male looked up at the clock. "It's that time already eh?" he said softly to himself as he folded the newspaper, got up and went to answer the door.
Stood outside was a small female with bright red hair and a sleepy scowl across her face. Jiraiya couldn't help but smile at the girl, and she tried her best to return the gesture.
"Ah good morning Kiri. I except you're here for Naruto?" he asked, letting the girl in and shutting the door behind her and stuffing his hands in his pockets. "He's still in bed, I think."
That seemed to set the girl off. Her emerald orbs narrowed as she glared up the stairs. "That lazy good-for-nothing!" She grumbled as she kicked off her shoes and stomped upstairs.
Jiraiya listened for a moment until he heard a scream and a loud crash. "Well... that's one way to wake him up I suppose." The older male chuckled as he retreated in to the kitchen. A moment or two later, Kiri entered the room and flopped down on one of the bar stools, holding her head in her hands.
"Excited for your first day of high school then?" Jiraiya asked, though he could guess the answer.
Kiri looked at him as if he were made and sighed, scraping her long hair in to a messy ponytail. "Not really..." She mumbled, resting her chin in her palm and looking off out of the window. "I just want it to be over so I can go back to bed."
Jiraiya laughed heartily, which made the girl smile. "Well at least you have Naruto and all your other friends to help you through the day." He said, finishing off his coffee and putting the empty mug in the sink for later.
It was then that Naruto entered; his eyes heavy with sleep and his hair still tousled from not brushing it. "Morning Jiraiya." The boy yawned, making himself a bowl of cereal before he slipped in to the seat next to Kiri.
"Are you seriously going to school looking like that?" Kiri asked in disbelief, pointing to Naruto's bed head and his rather messily put on clothes. "You look like... well like you just got out of bed."
"Well you didn't exactly give me enough time to get ready." Naruto mumbled, sticking his tongue out at the girl before wolfing down his cereal. Kiri rolled her eyes at him and reached in to her bag, pulling out a hairbrush before she got up began to comb Naruto's hair till it looked relatively neat.
"You really are a pain in the ass sometimes." She said with a gentle smile, straightening out his orange and black t-shirt before she sat back down. Naruto grinned at her, dumping his empty bowl in to the sink and grabbed his ready-packed school bag from the side.
Turning to Jiraiya, Naruto waved. "See you later." He said before nodding at Kiri and the pair of them moved to finish getting ready and leave.
"Bye. Have a good day." Jiraiya said, following them to see the two out of the door. He smiled fondly as Kiri and Naruto walked down the street towards their new school before he shut the door and returned to reading the paper.
