First Sight
Renée POV
I looked at my daughter all bent and broken a lump formed in my throat and tears threatened overwhelm me. No I have to be strong for her, for her. "Bella" I whispered. She was asleep, just like the doctor said, but I thought, no foolishly hoped he would be wrong and that she would be awake to tell me everything alright, ok, fine. I almost laughed at my own selfishness I wanted her to reassure me when she was the one all bent and broken, covered head to foot in bandages from her fall.
My train of thought was monetarily lost as soon as I saw him. It took me awhile to regain my thoughts and as if on cue the young man stood up and introduced himself.
"Hello my name is Edward Cullen, you must be Bells mom. I've heard so much about you and I've always wanted to meet the women who raised Bella." As he said this he moved his gaze away from Bella's face and into mine. I saw his pained expression as he did this as if it caused him actual pain. He did not move, get up from her side as if he knew what would happen if she woke to find him not there. It was then I remembered that I did not know this man. And it was then that I knew it didn't matter. It didn't matter that I didn't know this man, this perfect stranger, this angel sent down from heaven to guard my daughter. And at this thought I could have sworn I saw Edward Cullen give a slight frown before it vanished and was replaced by a look of pure helplessness. As he looks back at my daughter with a look of love so powerful it almost brings me to my knees I realize that whoever this man is, this Edward Cullen that he loves my daughter.
He loved her but did she love him? I watched as Edward Cullen carefully took her hand in his, and I saw his grin when the monitor suddenly went wild at his touch, even in her sleep, and it was then that I knew I had my answer.
