Don't Ever Leave Me

"Peyton, don't ever leave me, okay?"

"Okay- Bye."

She promised Lucas she would never leave him. She wasn't about to break that promise. The doctor's office is cold and uncomforting. The walls are white, blinding her; the doctor's voice, monotonous and void of emotion. She didn't have cancer, that would mean leaving Lucas and the life they made behind. There had to be another reason. There had to be.

The doctor flips through pages, writing down notes and scribbling all over the place. She couldn't stand it.

"Can I get dressed know?"

"Uh-uh."

'Wow, he's a man of few words.' Peyton thinks to herself. She lets herself into the bathroom then she shimmies into her jeans and pulls on her shirt. When she comes out the doctor hands her, her file and leads her to the reception area. The nurse takes her folder and tells her the doctor will call her soon with the results of her blood tests. All she can say is, "Thank you."

Lucas isn't here, so she has time to hear her thoughts, none of them are of much comfort. 'Ellie died of breast cancer.' 'Ellie died of cancer.' 'Ellie died.' 'Anna died.' Her thoughts are solely of death and she has to go somewhere, anywhere, but TRIC. Her fight with Mia hadn't made things easier either. She has the record label breathing down her neck and she took it on Mia and she feels horrible. So, the River Court is the only place she knows that will bring her some solence.

She sits in the middle of her greatest work ever. Her masterpiece, her pledge to Lucas, to always love him. She cries for the unknown that lies ahead of her. She cries for her past, her loneliness and her mistakes. She cries for the good in her life, she cries for the bad. She cries for Lucas and she cries for herself.

The drive back to TRIC was a quiet one. No music, no radio, just wind, silent but deafening wind. "Peyton, don't ever leave me, okay?" No, she wasn't going to live him! Her cell phone rings and it's the doctor. Her nerves are shot and she listens and waits. The dial tone ends their conversation. Lucas is next

"Hey, I have to tell you something."

You can't measure a dream, because dreams have no length, no beginning and no end. Her dream is to live, to love and to spend the rest of her life with Lucas.
