Potter and his friends had left him alone on the dusty floor of the Shrieking Shack, amidst the tattered curtains and broken piano. He could feel the venom flowing through his veins, infecting his cells and killing them one by one. He began to lose feel in his extremities, the spasms dying out and he knew soon he would only be left in his mind.

Images begin to flash across his mind of her. The day he first saw her with her sister, flying higher than humanly possible. The first time he spoke to her and told about who she was. The day on the train as they embarked on this great journey together. Classes and days spent in the library, her trying to make him laugh. The small smiles he would try to hide behind back.

Then there was the future he had always imagined, his paradise. A world where she never stopped talking to him and he never upset her. He never joined the Dark Lord and they married after Hogwarts. They had a daughter who looked exactly like her and he would love her with all his heart.

"Severus," he heard her voice now, calling to him from the darkness at the edge of his visions.

"Lily, my love," he called back. "Where are you?"

"Severus," she said again, but he could not find her as much as he tried.

"Lily"! he cried out desperately. He had to find her. He wanted to so much to see her, hear her voice since she had died. He wanted to apologize for everything.

"Severus," she cried, her voice getting further and further away.

"Lily!" Severus shouted, his eyes opening.

He was surrounded by gloom and darkness, the dusty floors and the broken piano. He looked around and saw his body laying there in a pool of his blood. It seemed that some time had passed, his skin blue and his body now stiff in death. But if he was there, how was he seeing himself?

He looked down to see the floor through a translucent veil, his body floating a few feet and the dust beneath him undisturbed.

Severus screamed out in anguish. He had wanted to die, to be lost in his dreams and his paradise, but even in death, he would not be reunited with his beloved Lily.
