A quick one shot. Takes place about a month or so after the drug bust season finale. Would be great if the writers paid attention and opened next season with a scene like this… maybe?

"ok, yeah, see you tonight at the Penny at 8… yeah, you too"

"who was that?" Andy asked Sam as they were cruising through the streets of Toronto. It was not a busy day and they were headed to the diner for lunch

"Not that its your business, but it was Monica"

"oh" Andy tried to be nonchalant, but the name pierced her ear drums like a dart " I thought you said you broke it off with her"

"We did, but right after the under cover op, when I went to see Diaz, we ran into each other and we've been hanging out lately."

"oh" Andy tried not to let Sam see her sulk.

She hated the thought of Same giving attention to another woman. She missed the feel of him everyday. She ached to have him kiss her the way he had kissed her when they were under cover. She had lied to herself and Traci that night, it seemed so long ago now, she had used sarcasm to cover her feelings, best mistake of my life, ha ha… She knew there was no sarcasm, going to Sam that night really had been one of her better mistakes. But because she wouldn't admit to herself the truth of her feeling she had now dug herself a 6 foot deep hole with no way out. She didn't love Luke. She loved Sam with such intensity it scare her shitless. Luke was safe, he couldn't hurt her the way Sam could. Sam had the power to shatter her heart like glass.

"What's the matter McNally? Im not allowed to date? You can't have your cake and eat it too. You're with Callaghan and from what I hear, you're playing house. When's the closing? Next week? Were you even going to tell me? Im you're partner and you're the one who insists that we're FRIENDS" He stressed the friends part.

He didn't like being so curt with her, but give a man a break. She must know how he feels, he saw the same feeling in her eyes ten thousand times. He's been there for her through everything, her fall back guy when her boyfriend was being too much of a brick-headed dumb ass to realize what a goddess he had. If he was ever lucky enough to have Andy's affections, he'd spend everyday showing her how lucky he was to have her. She'd never be second to his job. He had, after all, given up a position with Gun and Gangs to stay her partner. He loved her with every fiber of his being, but he knew he had to move on. He'd come to the conclusion that he'd never love another woman, but with Monica things were simple. Monica was safe, she couldn't hurt him the way Andy could, Andy had the power to shatter him like glass.

"I didn't tell you because… because…" she was nearly to tears. She needed to get this out. Sam was her friend and he's support her. "Because I think it's the wrong thing to do."

"what do you mean?"

"I mean I'm not in love with Luke, but I don't know how to get out of it at this point. And I don't want to have my cake and eat it too…"

"well what do you want?"

she looked at him and said simply, "you"
