Which One?

Terry McGuiness was in awe as he clicked through old Mister Wayne's digital scrapbook. He couldn't believe Bruce Wayne had gotten to know so many legendary superheroes. Superman, Wonder Woman, the original Green Lantern, even Static were people that Mister Wayne had known on a first name basis. Unbelievable! It was easy to forget that the old timer had been the original Batman, but still… To think of such super powered beings as his old drinking buddies was mind-blowing!

"Hey Mister Wayne?"

"Yes, Terry?" the old man glanced up from the gadget he was working on and removed his jeweler's eyepiece. Some bats fluttered in the far end of the Batcave. "Something I can help you with?"

"Of all the heroes you ever worked with, which one was the most important?" Terry asked. "I mean, which one made the greatest difference in your life? Which one made the greatest impact, you know what I mean? Who was the one who had the biggest effect on the original Batman?"

"Hm," the colorless old man grunted. "That's a good one. If I had to decide I'd have to say it was Nightwing, the original Robin."

"Nightwing?" Terry repeated in disbelief. "Nightwing? Not Superman? Nightwing? Are you kidding me? You're choosing a former boy wonder over the Man of Steel?"

"You don't know him like I do," the old man shrugged as he put his jeweler's lens back over his eye. "He's a hell of a guy."

"You're right," Terry scoffed. "I don't know him at all. What makes him so special?"

"Well Terry," the old man smiled grimly. "All I can say is that if you don't know Nightwing, you don't know Dick."
