Author's Notes: Hello people! This is a drabble to test the fanfic waters. I'm new at this so please be nice. I don't mind criticism, but be specific so I can improve.

She's Gone by Queen Nia

Silver starlight illuminates the city. Tamaki sits in his car, downcast and feeling a little buzzed from the drinks he'd had with Mori and his wife. The air is chill at this time of year - late November, when the leaves finally kiss the trees goodbye and frost wanders onto the manicured lawn that surrounds the mansion.

She's gone.

It wasn't a surprise, just a painful truth. Illness overtook her, suddenly and irrevocably. He sits behind the wheel and finds "their" song on the audio system's playlist and listens to it on repeat. It's an old song - early 2000's at least, but it seems to hold in its words everything he feels. It's about a boy who loses a girl, but no matter. Hurt is hurt. Pain is pain. And every broken heart needs time to mend.

His comlink sounds and he answers in an atypical lacklustre voice, "Hey."

"Where are you?" the soft voice at the other end of the wave asks.

"Just sitting."

"Thinking about her again, aren't you?"

"Hard not to."

"Want me to come home?"

"No. I'll be okay. Just need some time alone."

"Got it. I have to work a bit later than I expected.

"I understand. You do what you need to do."

"Will you be okay?"

"Ummm. Yeah, sure."

"Okay, then. I love you."

"Me too. Bye."

He disconnects and sighs, then commands the vehicle to shut down altogether and the house to unlock itself. He steps out into the semi-circle that is the driveway. A single light shines inside their home and the outdoor lanterns are on. Ryoji is still awake.

He enters the mansion on wobbly legs and heads to the kitchen. He misses her most at times like this. He stops by her place: a feeding bowl, empty water dish and a single raggedy dog toy are the only things that remain of her.

A few more tears squeeze from the corners of his eyes.

"I miss you, Antoinette," he sighs.

And then he's moving past the remnants of their friendship and up the stairs to kiss his children good night on their foreheads.

The End

Author's Notes: If you didn't guess by the end, the person on the other end of the line was Haruhi. Thank you so much for reading this!
