Authors note: I'll warn you now: This one is pretty sad. At least, me and my friends thought so. Let me know what you think.

WARNING: Character death.

George turned just in time to see the bright flash of green illuminate his brother's eyes as the life left them. Everything seemed to slow: the raging duels around him, the masked figure lowering its dark, gnarled wand, even the very beating of his heart. He let out a shout, the paralyzing horror releasing its grip on his throat. He raced towards his brother, casting a killing curse at the man who downed him, and caught Fred before he hit the ground.

He knelt clinging to his brother's lifeless form, tears streaming steadily down his cheeks. As he cradled his twin he shook him lightly, though he knew it was far too late. "Fred!" he cried. "Freddie, please! You can't leave me! Not like this!" His voice cracked as he pressed his forehead to that of his fallen brother's. "Please… You can't…"

The battle raged on around the boy, indifferent to his cries, his pain. Pieces of stone and rubble fell all around, but the red headed young man did not care. All that had ever really mattered to him, all that had ever made him feel safe and worthwhile had been ripped away and now lay dead in his arms. He felt so lost. So hopeless. He started to hum, though the sounds of blasts and screams filling the air drowned it out. The tune broke slightly, strained by his attempts to keep from falling apart. Soon humming turned to singing.

"Like a comet pulled from orbit as it passes a sun…"George's voice was shaking and soft, but pure. "Like a stream that meets a boulder halfway through the wood…" A sad half-smile crossed his features, but it quickly disappeared as his lips began to quiver. "Who's to say if I've been changed for the better? Because I knew you…" His voice softened further. "Because I knew you… I have been changed…" His voice broke. A tear fell from his eye and landed on his twin's pale, cold cheek as he sobbed the last words that he could manage.

"For good…"
