Preface

I looked up, the moon casting a harsh glow against my translucent skin. Breathing in the salty sea air, I let myself sink into the waves, once again becoming one with my skin. I closed my ears to the sounds, and focused on the pulsing energy of the tide.

One…Two…Three…Whoosh…

I didn't bother opening my eyes; there was no point in this lifeless pool, despite the excessive moonlight. It's such a shame that he stole all the life from this pool. Now, only I fill the empty void. Thank god he doesn't no my secret. He would kill me first chance he got. Not even the Last Word would save me, not with his deranged mind. He would steal my skin, and use it against me for either my knowledge or my body. Then he would kill me. The vile creature.

My head surfaced the waves; my ears now open to warning sounds. Hearing none, I swam to the slight cliff, and after many attempts, hoisted myself upon it. I let my skin shed off me, revelling in the feel of the breeze against my naked skin. My heart beat with the tides, the seconds, the minutes, as I stood to dance, a dance as old as time. The moonlight lit up my skin, revealing the thin veins underneath. My skin temporarily forgotten, I quickened my dance, my hair showing my closed eyes where to go. Suddenly, I stopped. The dance abandoned, I picked up my silvery skin, my solace. I made my way to the house, my long hair covering my naked form. With one last glace at the moon; I slid into my open window.

I looked into the mirror, examining my slight body and my silvery lilac hair, the only thing that kept me on my feet. My Differences. These traits isolated me from the rest of the girls here. I wasn't blessed with the lush chesnut hair and athletic build of my father and his sisters. No, i inherited my mother's etherworldly silver hair and skin. I can never blend in. Fortunately, the world's knowledge of Ethers faded with the years, so I am safe. For now.

You're most likely wondering what i am musing to myself about.

Well here's your answer.

My name is Perenna. I am a sealmaiden.
