"Elena, you didn't mean to kill all those people. Your humanity was off, it was inevitable," Damon said to Elena as she sat on the couch sobbing. He was stroking her hair and kissing her forehead.
"Damon I- I didn't mean it when I said I never loved you. I'm so sorry. You know I love you more than anything," Elena said between sobs.
Stefan left the room after she said 'I love you'. Part of him was miserable that she had said it. But that was inevitable too, he thought. He went up to his room to call Caroline and tell her about Elena and her humanity being turned on.
By then, Damon and Elena were standing up. Damon was wiping the tears from her eyes. He was overjoyed that Elena had her humanity back, but he'd never show it. In all honesty, he had never thought he could love someone so much. He'd never felt this way about anyone before. The moment Elena told him she never loved him made him realize that she was everything to him. And made his drive to get her back to normal even stronger. He held her tight while she cried into his shoulder and vowed he would never let her get out of control again and never give up on her.
Elena didn't know exactly how to feel. She was overwhelmed by all the emotions. It was like a gust of wind blew into her and made her feel every kind of sadness there ever was. Hopelessness, despair, depression, sorrowness, desolation, misery, and the worst; regret. Having Damon hold her and whisper to her that it was alright, made her feel content. But then again, just getting to see him in a whole new light rather than just another blood sucking monster, made her relieved.
