Hello there, dear readers! I'm terribly sorry for my long hiatus. I tried my best to accomplish my BigBangBigBang entry but I failed. Every attempt to finish a chapter or even just a one-shot of any story gets delayed (blame school and tumblr). So, now that this one's posted, hopefully I'd be devoted to finish this.
Made as a companion piece to my Shamy video (available on my youtube channel: (slash)rubyanjel) of the same title. Supposed to be only a one-shot but then I wanted to post something so bad so I'm making it into short chapters.
Chapter 1
Sheldon slammed the door by the passenger seat as he got off the taxi. It was 4:20pm. He was running late for his appointment and he's never late, well, until now. Although deep down, he was just glad he'd get to see her again.
Strong winds blew as he reached near the entrance to the coffee shop and he instinctively folded his arms against his chest, drawing his windbreaker tighter around him. Looking up, he surveyed the crowd inside the establishment through its glass wall and there she was, sitting casually by a small table. She was typing away on her laptop and then reached for the cup in front of her taking a sip without removing her eyes off the screen. He took a deep breath before he continued inside.
"Hi, Amy." He rested his hand against the edge of the small table as he took the seat opposite to her.
She looked up at her companion and immediately closed her laptop. "Oh hello," she greeted back, her voice barely louder than a whisper.
"Sorry for making you wait so long." He smiled at her apologetically. "You know how hard it is to get a proper cab nowadays."
"It's okay, Sheldon. I know what mean. I understand." She looked down on her cup as if something will come out of it spontaneously.
Silence instantly took over between them and he took this as a chance to take in her presence. He was desperately wishing for her to look up at him so he could look into her eyes. Not a single day passed that he didn't wish to see those lovely green orbs. Every flicking strand of her eyelash, every wrinkle that surrounded it, he longed to see them—he longed to see her. Here she was now, right in front of him, obviously feeling uncomfortable on their impromptu reunion.
He bit his lip as he thought of a way to go on with their conversation. "So, how's it been?"
The sound of his voice made her look up at him. "Fine." She briefly smiled at him before looking away. "Like always, busier than ever."
Sheldon was no master with awkward situations. If anything else, he is the cornucopia of social awkwardness. Leonard told him that, obviously overhearing it from one of their Skype sessions in the past. He dismissed that comment every single time Leonard would mention it but right now, a part of him actually believes his roommate's words.
"How's your mother?"
"She's fine too." She took a sip of her tea without looking at him.
"Oh good, good," he nodded, stealing a glance at her before focusing his eyes on the dessert display at the counter. He noticed an odd looking cupcake with dull pink frosting, reminded him of brains that are about to be dissected. "Any breakthrough on those cadaver brain specimens you worked on?"
She briefly looked at him before answering, " I had my paper published for it so now we're just waiting for the confirmation of Neuron if they are planning to feature it or not. You?"
"The usual stuff. We're very close to discovering the existence of the Higg-Boson particle."
Amy nodded as her phone buzzed in her purse. She immediately retrieved it, looked at the screen to check who the caller was. "One moment," She excused herself before finally taking the call.
Sheldon pressed his lips together and tried to look for another diversion. Absentmindedly, he tapped his fingers on the table in a random pattern. His eyes wandered around the room, from a guy who was a few feet from him with his shirt slightly stained with his beverage, to the cashier who was closing the cash register in an annoyed fashion, to the college student typing profusely on his laptop.
"Sheldon, I need to go."
At the sound of her voice, he swiftly turned his head back at her direction. "But why?"
"I'm sorry, but there has been a problem back at the laboratory."
He watched at her intently as she began packing up her things, trying hard to control himself. He wanted to stop her so bad, keep her from leaving. If only she could notice the latent sadness in his eyes. For days, he tried to convince himself to finally talk to her, apologize for what happened between them. Now, it seems that his plan was going down the drain.
With one hand holding her beverage and the other fixing her bag on her shoulder, she kept still in front of him. Forcing a smile, she bid goodbye.
He watched her walk past him towards the door, and out of the coffee shop. He took in a deep breath, closing his eyes as he did so.
Shaking his head, he whispered, "I can't believe I let her go."
