Tears trickled down her pale cheeks as she held on tightly to her mother's leg, watching as people from different kingdoms place white roses on top of her father's grave. Some people she recognized and some were complete strangers, but by the way they dressed she could tell that they were people of high society.
Her big grey eyes looked past her eyelashes and up towards her mother who had an expression on her face that was unlike any other she has seen before. Her expression was stern yet soft, it seemed like she wanted to cry, but was not going to. She remembered her father saying that her mother was stubborn and did not like receiving any pity from anyone no matter how bad the situation was. He told her that her mother did not want anybody to think of her as weak. Father had once told her a story of how when they were kids, her mother's pet dog, Lucky had passed away and her mother did not even cry a single tear. Though he said later that day he caught her in her room bawling her eyes out.
Will she do just that once everyone leaves?
Lifting her small hand up she grabbed on to the hem of her mother's dress and tugged down. She watched as her mother snapped out of her gaze and look down towards her, giving a small comforting smile. She returned the smile and lifted her hands up, demanding to be lifted up and into her mother's arms. Which her mother complied.
"Don't worry. We will be fine without your father. Our family is strong. We will get through this…I promise."
Natsumi could only nod her head and trust her mother's words. After all what can an eight year old who does not understand anything about the world yet say or do.
