Prologue
I always considered myself as… different. But different could not remotely describe what I really was. My mother never liked to speak of my father, mainly because she never loved him, didn't even like him by what my grandmother had told me. That left only two possible scenarios: Either I was the after effect from a one night stand, or… I was the after effect of my mother being forced into intimacy.
I always wondered what type of person my father is- or was, considering I hadn't know whether he was dead or alive. The reason why I wondered so much was because I was curious about my particular ability. I was able to see the names of the people I did not know. These names would hover above the people's heads, displayed alongside a set of numbers, for what reason? I did not know. However I did know that it wasn't common, let alone heard of.
When I was young Japan was in a state of fear, where no crime was committed because they feared of being punished by "Kira". I was old enough to actually understand what was going on, seeing as I was considered a genius. A man found a supernatural way of killing criminals. He was able to kill however he wanted, he did not have to be present either. He had the ultimate weapon. He only needed a name and a face. This man had made history. He killed infamous criminals around the world, including the criminal in Los Angeles.
This criminal was known as Beyond Birthday, a weird name for a weird fellow. He had killed a total of three victims. These killings were conducted differently each time. The first one was a man in his forties, the second was a girl of only thirteen and the last was another woman in her twenties. These victims were not connected in anyway other than their names. BB, QQ, and BB again. They had died of different causes. The first victim was drugged to sleep and was killed by strangulation. The second victim was killed by blunt force trauma, She had been hit in the head rather harshly… she too had been drugged beforehand. The third victim was also drugged but how she died was mere experimentation. Beyond Birthday wanted to know if it was possible for a person to die of internal bleeding. He had beaten the body until it actually bled internally. Then for reasons unknown he had cut off one arm and one leg. He took the arm with him and left the leg in the bathroom.
These murders had become famous because they had been performed in thumb lock rooms and for a few other reasons I do not want to specify. The thing was, this man looked like me, or I looked exactly like him. He had been killed while serving his life sentence in California in 2004. His killer? Simple: Kira.
Going back to the mass murderer that changed the lives of many, he had been a simple senior in high school when the huge mess started. He had openly challenged the greatest detective to ever live: L, even if he wasn't exactly… present, but enough about history. This isn't where I tell their story, this is about me and how I am connected to these life changing events. One day, a notebook fell out of the sky before me. I picked it up and was met by a death got that introduced himself as Light, merely a year after Kira died. I couldn't see the name or the numbers that hovered over people's heads, mainly because he was already dead. Users of the Death Note neither go to heaven or hell. They become death gods.
My name is Moon Birthday. Daughter of Alexandra Parker and Beyond Birthday.
