"He died that day because his body had served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, and then was free to leave." ― Garth Stein, The Art of Racing in the Rain

Lourdes, being of faith, knew that when Jimmy died that he had gone to a better place. Lourdes often wondered what the next world was like. She figured the only way to find out was to die, and she was not about to do that anytime soon.
Many people grieved over the boy's death, and Lourdes herself did for a while until she came to a revelation. Grieving was being selfish.
Jimmy was probably happy as ever on the other side. Not having to be a child soldier anymore fighting for his and other lives. Wishing that he would come back to the 2nd Mass didn't feel right. She felt like she was wishing him out of his experience in heaven. This gave her comfort, and the girl found she got over Jimmy's death much faster than others.
Lourdes wanted to share her faith with others, but most wouldn't listen. Some asked why God would bring the aliens to Earth if he knew that they would cause pain and despair. She told them that it was a test and that they just had to have faith. People didn't like this. They wanted answers, answers to questions Lourdes never even thought of.
But the young girl never stopped believing. Her faith in her God was the only thing that kept her going in times like these. When deaths like Jimmy's were a common situation Lourdes found that she was the most calm and comforted of all.
