Robin couldn't quite remember how he got himself in this mess. A strapped to a chair, with a drill machine slowly painstakingly coming to his forehead, kind of mess.
"Let's go on a private mission, he said. We don't need to tell Batman, he said. Don't worry B, it'll be fun, he said. That warehouse looks harmless, he said-"
"Okay, Batgirl, I get it."
"Do you? Because I'm pretty sure I need to rant for a good five more minutes- no- wait- we'll be dead by then."
"Can't you see the good side to all of this?"
"No, Robin. I'm sorry I can't see the good side to having my brain drilled through. Can you?"
A pause.
"The seats are comfortable?"
"Thank God. I get to die in a comfortable chair."
Robin smiled to himself despite the situation. He knew why she was calmly freaking out, she hadn't developed the optimism that is required for the job. She was a rookie, more green than black, on her first mission without Batman. And having three minutes left to live before her brain got drilled into was a little stressful too.
"Hey...Babs?" Robin said, turning his head to glance at her out of his peripheral vision. Shocked- she turned her head too- that he would use her name in the field.
"Yeah...Dick?"
"I...nevermind."
"It's okay, you can tell me."
"Well, I just wanted to say it, in case we do die. But, erm, but Babs, I, I, um, I l-"
CRASH
"-What was that!"
Batgirl turned her forward- her stomach slightly dropping seeing how close the drill had gotten- and quirked her head slightly to look past the machine. A flash of yellow and red zoomed past.
"Robin, it's Kid Flash!"
As if on cue, the machines stopped, and Kid Flash appeared next to Robin, untying his ropes.
"Hey Rob, what are you doing in Central City?"
"Dude, you have the worst timing."
"Funny, from my perspective, it looks like I came just in time."
He sped over the remaining rope and started to untie Batgirl.
"Oh, HEY, you must be the new bat I've been hearing rumors about. You're a lot prettier than what Rob's said about you."
"Thank you," she smiled, touched by his comment. Then the smile dropped, "Wait, what has he said about-"
"Gotta run!"
Batgirl stood up and glared at Robin. All he did was shrug, making a mental note to punch Wally in the face when he got back to Mount Justice.
