Hey, so I'm back with a brand new one-shot! Yes, I have been gone for a while, and I'm sorry about that (especially as I'm coming back with one of my first tragedy fics in a while). Anyway, I hope you enjoy even if it is sad.
Warning (1)- Character death.
Warning (2)- Jason/Percy
I do not own Percy Jackson.
He Didn't Need To
One more day. That's what Jason promised him. One more day, and then they'd come clean. One more day, and there would be no more hidden touches, no more quick kisses when no one was looking, no more sneaking behind their friends' backs. One more day was what Jason had promised, but he never could have guessed one more day would become forever.
They were all shocked when it happened. Jason himself was already at Camp Half-Blood, waiting by the lake, already tucked into their spot. It wasn't until he realized the water was acting up that he thought that anything could be wrong.
it only took him two minutes to reach the Big House via flying, beating all of the other counselors there. From where he was it took him five seconds to locate Chiron and the god standing opposite the centaur. He knew before he looked that the body lying in the god's arms was his boyfriend.
Nobody knew. Jason supposed that, maybe, he should be proud of that fact, because they had been dating for three months already and thought someone would guess. But on the other hand, Jason was worried. Had he not given his boyfriend enough love? Was that why no one had known? Because the smaller boy who had stolen Jason's heart hadn't been given enough love? Had he died not knowing how much Jason truly loved him?
He didn't tell anyone. His love was his love, and it had disappeared, dying with the boy who he loved with all his heart. Nobody knew why he was so cold, reacting the most to the demigod's death. Not even Piper or Leo could calm him down, until his rage was finally submerged in guilt, grief, and self-blame. It was his fault. That was what he insisted every day. If he hadn't asked him to, the teen wouldn't have come. He had already left camp for the beginning of school, he didn't need to come.
Jason let out a sob, curling tighter around the body he imagined was tucked into his, its smaller stature fitting perfectly into his own tall one. He didn't need to come. He didn't need to crash into what must have been the only other car on the road. He didn't need to be crushed between the steering wheel and the remains of his seat, didn't need to be showered with broken glass.
Percy didn't need to die, but he did, and now all Jason had left was his green-eyed ghost who disappeared whenever Jason hugged him too hard.
So… yeah, that's it. Hope you enjoyed, and please review!
