A/N:::: The product of no sleep... The power of oreos
NEW NEW EARTH
It had something to do with oil. Of course, the governments wouldn't admit it, but it did. One Country had been crying for the past ten years for help and aid, but was denied. They didn't have anything of value. It was a stupid thing to do, really, they weren't just going to waltz in there, say "Hey, we're here to help!" Then bomb the crap out of everybody –even their own guys-- and expect to be welcome.
Of course, the news didn't spread into Atlantis until five weeks into the war. Until O'Neill was dishonorably discharged for not following orders from the President. Until the new General Aaron at the SGC was inserted into things, placed a call to Doctor Weir.
"All personnel originating from the countries of Spain and Taiwan must be returned home immediately, impending an international incident."
Weir was surprised, until she learned of the war from Samantha Carter. Something about detainees and POW and the above-mentioned countries refusing to participate. It was a threat tactic, to get the countries to join the war.
She'd resisted, of course, until Gen. Aaron threatened the Atlantis Project. A well-placed call from the President and Weir had no choice but to fold. Politics and pride always won over science and exploration. Weir wasn't pleased. She'd offered the 15 Atlantis members, scientists and Airmen alike, to be presumed dead from an off-world mission. Most refused, feeling either bold, adventurous or a sense of duty to return to Earth---even as a defunct POW.
The news spread through Atlantis like a brush wildfire on a hot and humid day in Kelowna. Tensions were worse than they had been since the very beginning. People worried about their families, about other people's families and Earth in general.
Canada didn't join the war. They clung tightly to the Untied Nations, like a little brother who wouldn't play unless it's older brothers joined in. The United Nations did join, after eight months into the war, under the fake ideals of peace. Even a child knew that War plus More War, did not equal out to love and happiness.
Canada revolted. Sat back on it's hind legs, crossed it's arms and pouted, refusing to move, refusing to join the war.
General Aaron tried to recall the Canadians from Atlantis.
McKay had a fit. He wanted to step through the Stargate, go up to Gen Aaron and introduce the big-eared, squinty-eyed jerkface to his left fist. Multiple times. Enough to knock some sense into him... or kill him. Whichever came first. Weir told him no. The second the Canadian Astrophysicist stepped foot through the 'Gate, he would be arrested and thrown into a POW cell with the Spaniards and Taiwanese.
Weir flat out refused to release her Canadians into custody and then cut off the connection with the SGC.
Then it all went to hell.
