A/N: Depressing songfic ftw! The song is "Fall for you" by Secondhand Serenade
Fall For You
The best thing about tonight's that we're not fighting.
Could it be that we have been this way before?
Mistoffelees smiled thinly as he walked towards the gnarled tree. Victoria slept peacefully in her den with her mate. The tuxedo's mind was set.
I know you don't think I am trying.
I know you're wearing thin down to the core.
"You need to find someone, Mistoffelees." Victoria had said. Didn't she see? He had found her. And she would realize, soon enough. Mistoffelees climbed the tree and sat on a branch. The tuxedo conjured a long, thick rope and let his breath out slowly. Inhale. Exhale. Repeat. That was the mantra Mistoffelees had been saying to himself for months.
But hold your breath,
Because tonight will be the night that I fall for you.
Over again.
Mistoffelees tied the rope to the tree branch above him and slipped the loop on the other end around his neck. He felt his pulse beat rapidly, faster than it had in ages. Since Victoria had chosen him. The tom that was everything Mistoffelees could never be.
Victoria stepped out of her den and saw him, her expression flicking from confusion to shock and finally settling on agony. She hadn't been sleeping as deeply as he'd thought. Mistoffelees' claws toed the edge of the branch.
Don't make me change my mind.
I won't live to see another day,
I swear it's true.
Because a girl like you is impossible to find,
You're impossible to find.
The tuxedo tom tightened the rope on his neck resolutely. She wouldn't, couldn't, stop him. Not tonight, not ever.
"Mistoffelees, no!" The white queen screamed and her mate came running. Her wonderful, perfect, big, tall mate. Mistoffelees hissed as she buried her face in his copper and white fur.
This is not what I intended.
I always swore to you I'd never fall apart.
I may have failed,
But I have loved you from the start.
Oh,
"Victoria." He said, drawing her attention. Mistoffelees sighed; it took this much to call her away from him. "This is for you."
She gasped as he tested the rope and smiled.
Hold your breath,
Because tonight will be the night that I fall for you.
Over again.
Don't make me change my mind.
I won't live to see another day,
I swear it's true.
Because a girl like you is impossible to find.
It's impossible.
So breathe in so deep,
Breathe me in.
I'm yours to keep.
Mistoffelees smiled as Victoria took deep, shuddering breaths. He ignored the tears dripping down her pristine white cheeks; her mate would dry them. It was not his duty.
Hold onto your words,
'Cause talk is cheap.
Victoria's mate stepped up.
"Mistoffelees, this is stupid! Untie the rope!" He called, still holding onto Victoria.
Remember me tonight, Because tonight will be the night that I fall for you.
When you're asleep.
Over again.
Mistoffelees smiled cynically and shook his head. No. He would no longer stand in the copper tom's way. Victoria had chosen the copper and white tom, not Mistoffelees, and it was the magician's duty to let her be with him.
Don't make me change my mind.
I won't live to see another day,
I swear it's true.
Because a girl like you is impossible to find.
You're impossible to find.
Mistoffelees took a final breath, closed his eyes, and fell from the tree. The rope held, snapping taught and enticing a scream from Victoria.
Don't make me change my mind.
I won't live to see another day,
I swear it's true.
Because a girl like you is impossible to find.
You're impossible to find...
The tuxedo swung gently in the wind, the ghost of a smile still on his lips.
