A/N: Something different from what I usually do. Inspired by the song Emergency by Paramore and based on the aftermath of Sasuke leaving. If you know the song then you'll notice that most of the lyrics have been written as dialogue. Written in Naruto's POV.
And a hearty thank you to Fanfictionest for putting up with my weirdness. 3
"I think we have an emergency... I think we have an emergency..."I repeat the sentence over and over but she doesn't turn.
If you thought I'd leave then you were wrong. I won't stop holding on.
"Are you listening?"
Her soft green eyes are distant as they settle on me.
Sakura, are you watching me?
"This is an emergency," I say. Sakura won't even look at anyone unless it's an emergency. She doesn't smile or laugh and her eyes are always clouded as if waiting for a storm to pass.
"I can't pretend that I don't see this." My voice is low and strained.
I'm sick of this. I'm sick of pretending, Sakura.
She blinks and the clouds in her eyes seem to clear for a moment.
"It's really not your fault that no one cares to talk about it..." I don't say his name – no one does – I can't bare to hurt her, she's still too delicate.
For the first time her eyes really seem to see me, they lock onto mine with a a glimmer of life and the strength she used to have seems to return to her body.
I've seen love die way too many times when it deserved to be alive.
I've seen you cry way too many times... Sakura.
"You give up every chance you get."
Her head drops, she turns away.
"You deserve to be alive Sakura!" The words are out of my mouth before I can think.
"Go away," she whispers. Her eyes are moist.
I swallow the lump in my throat.
"No, Sakura," I say.
She turns to me with wide eyes, the tears tumble down her cheeks. It's the first time I've ever told her 'no'. I'd follow her around, asking her to date me, to just give me a chance, she'd call me a loser and turn to him with those beautiful warm sea foam eyes, she'd flutter her long black eyelashes and ask him out.
But where is he now?
"That is enough," my voice is deep and serious.
Her jaw drops slightly, she blinks back the surprise.
"I've seen love die and I've seen you cry way too many times when you deserve to be alive." My voice shakes a little. I take a breath to steady myself.
"You are alive. And I know you're in pain and you're hurting so much that you wish you were dead but I just can't do it any more. Sakura... you're being selfish."
There's hurt in her wide eyes and it's painful to see. Her hands clench.
I grit my teeth, I know what's coming next. I brace myself even though I know I could evade her blow easily. Her flat hand connects to my face in a sharp, powerful blow. I don't flinch, I stay as still as a statue.
My blue eyes gaze down at her.
She breathes in quickly.
"If you thought I'd leave then you were wrong."
Sakura's bright pink hair sways, catching the dim light as it filters through the trees.
"Why?" she asks. "Why won't you leave me alone?"
"Because right now you feel completely alone and even though you push me away, what you really want is..."
My lips tug down into a small smile.
"You just want someone to hold you so you don't have to feel all alone any more."
"Naruto." Sakura sniffles back her tears and falls into my arms.
I grin, my name has never sounded so good.
"I'm here," I say into her strawberry hair. "I won't stop holding on."
Because I love you.
