Looking at the jewel shards that they had collected over the past four years, Kagome sat on the ground, indian-style, next to the sun setting over the lake. Everyday they were ever closer to realizing Inuyasha's dream of becoming a full demon.
Kagome was unaware at that time, that Inuyasha was watching her from the nearby trees.

Over the past four years, even though he fought it as much as possible, he began to have feelings for Kagome. Kikyo had stolen his heart, and killed it years ago, but now he felt as if Kagome had brought it back to life. Inuyasha's father was dead and his mother was gone. Kagome was the only one he could still hold on to.
Today's the day. Inuyasha decided. Today he would tell her.
Inuyasha exited the woods in quiet, cat-like movements. He walked up to Kagome and put his hand on her shoulder. He apperently scared her.
"SIT, BOY!" Kagome yelled.
"OW! What did you do that for?!"
"You scared me!"
Inuyasha threw her a dirty look and stood up. He dusted himself off, as Kagome turned once again to look at the sunset.
"Kagome? Can I talk to you?" Inuyasha asked tentatively.
"About what?" Kagome replied a bit suspiciously.
"Well.........I....uh.....wanted to...um....you know.....uh.....get something off my chest......" He spoke quietly while staring at her hair in order to make it a bit easier on himself.
Kagome looked suprised. Inuyasha didn't speak so earnestly often. She therefore didn't try to spoil the moment.
"Sure. You know, whatever it is you can tell me." She turned around to face him, and patted the ground, signaling for him to sit down.
He took the hint.
As he sat, he put his hands together and looked at the ground.
"It's ok. Take as long as you need. Don't rush." As she spoke these words she put her hand on his.
He pulled his hand back. "I'M NOT RUSHING, DAMMIT!"
Kagome jumped a bit at this and bit her lip and sat back.
Instantly he realized he shouldn't have done that. "I'm sorry. This is hard, I don't do this to often......." Inuyasha trailed off.
Kagome sat silently, afraid of making him lash out again. She could tell that whatever he wanted to tell her was important and she wanted to find out what it was.
"....Um......over the past four years.........uh........I've treated you pretty rotten. And I'm sorry. I shouldn't have............I've been fighting myself and taking it out on you, and it wasn't even your fault.........."
Inuyasha paused to look up at Kagome, and she was staring at the ground, as well, just listening.
He went on.
"The truth is, I have no ill feelings toward you at all. In fact, it's acctually the opposite........."
Inuyasha was now looking directly at Kagome, who was still looking at the ground, but biting her lip, smiling, and tears welling in her eyes, all at the same time.
".............I.......love you."
Kagome looked at him. Tears began spilling out of her eyes. She threw herself upon him, and began sobbing. Inuyasha held her arms for minutes, but which at the time felt like hours, smoothing out her hair, until she calmed down.
Kagome finally sat back and looked at him smiling.
Inuyasha looked hopefully at her, and asked a question.
"So.........how do you feel about me?"
