The stark white walls were eerily lit, and an odd yet too familiar humming of machines filled any chance at silence. The fluorescent lights above her head sent shades of red, brown and gold, dancing around her still head. Her sheets had not been moved since they were last changed, she had remained still. Yet he still wanted her warm hand in his. He had been sitting there for over a month now, only ever sleeping when his mother arrived to watch over him. He was going to ask her to marry him that night that was until Voldemort came.

"George you have to go, stay at the Burrow, I have to fulfill the prophecy" George saw a single tear form in her eye and fall before she turned to leave.
"I love you," George said to her retreating figure, he knew he had to let her go, the future of the wizarding world depended on it.
"I love you to," she turned around to say, her eyes full of sadness as she walked away for the last time.

That was the last time he had ever heard her voice. Now his only company was the familiar humming. Absorbed in his own thoughts he barely heard the flat line of the machine before the mediwitches rushed in pushing him out of the room. His life was going in slow motion; he stood there for what seemed like hours before a mediwitch came out to him.
"We lost her," she said softly as she bowed her head and walked away. George broke down and cried more than he ever had. He walked solemky back into the room and held her had once more.
"I love you Hermione."
