Just a quick look into Haley's mind at the beginning of season 1. This is really the first thing i've uploaded and its very short. Please be kind.
She didn't know why she kept the bracelet. It was just a cheap, plastic, childish thing that her fingers inexplicably kept finding and stroking at odd moments. Which, of course, would lead to her thinking about him. That him. The him that tortured her best friend. The him that was such a... jerk... when other people were around. The him she knew in her bones was probably using her. However, he also could be sweet and shy and kind. During their tutoring sessions on the dock, he became a different person. He made her laugh, and EVERY TIME that happened his eyes would light up and he would look like a 5 year old on Christmas. He complimented her, he hung on her every word and had started confiding in her about his twisted relationship with Peyton...

That was a whole different reason why this was all wrong. The twisted love rectangle between her best friend, his brother, his brother's ex-girlfriend and herself.
If she thought about it too long, she got a little overwhelmed. it was all too dramatic.
And the bitter, harsh jealousy did not help. She tried to protect herself with sarcasm and witticisms, but no matter how much he tried to convince himself that he was over that girl, the less she believed him.
So she didn't know why she kept the bracelet, or why she looked forward to their sessions so much, or why her heart rate picked up when she saw him...
Maybe she did know why, but she wasn't ready to admit it to anyone, even herself.
