"You came."

The shorter man doesn't say anything, just stands facing the taller man. It is the taller man's bedroom, tidy and bare with signs of disuse, the window looking out onto the sunset.

"I didn't think you would."

"Why not?"

"Because... I'm not normally so lucky." The taller man turns away from the small one, and sits on his bed. "This is hard for me."

"When I got your letter... I thought it was a dream."

The larger man looks back at him. "Maybe it is," he says calmly. "Does it matter? What matters is right here and now, Carl."

Carl steps forward, so that the orange light of the setting sun bathes him. "Did you mean it?"

"Every word." The larger man tosses his head nervously, so that his soft brown hair falls into his face.

Carl smiles, and nods. "That's all I need then." And he crosses to the other man, and stands in front of him. Their different heights mean that their faces are level. "Gabriel, are you sure?"

Gabriel nods, and slowly reaches out to touch Carl's cheek as though scared of breaking it. "I love you."

"But what if... I'm not the one?"

"If you're not the one.... Do you mean if you're not the one for me?"

"Yes." Carl is shaking as Gabriel slowly strokes his cheek.

"That's not possible. If you weren't... my life wouldn't be worth living. You make my heart beat."

"I didn't think you had such a beautiful tongue in you," Carl whispers.

"Would you like to see it in action?" Gabriel asks, grinning.

"That's more like you," Carl replies coolly, rolling his eyes.

Then Gabriel leans forward, and they kiss. At first, it's merely lips bumping awkwardly together, but soon its so much more than that, and finally Carl pulls away, breathless.

"I love you," he says softly.

Gabriel nods. "Well, let's hope this dream doesn't end anytime soon."
