Silver

She'd woken with another nightmare again, causing him to wake up to the sound of her wrenching sobs and trembling body that seemed much too small in the large expanse of their bed when she was curled into herself like that. Kai murmured sweet nothings in her ear in effort to calm her, drawing soothing circles on the back of the gasping raven-haired girl.
Miah took a deep, shuddering breath before letting it out slowly, a whimper escaping her throat; she hated when the nightmares plagued her…the result always made her feel weak and pathetic, an image that was a complete contradiction to the façade she put up during the day. She would have hated for anyone to see her like that, weeping like a child over an old memory; anyone other than Kai, that is.
At least he was there; he understood the terrors that lurked within the subconscious. He battled similar demons himself, more often than not. He knew. And that fact comforted her more than any word or action he could have provided; she was understood.
She turned to him in the silver moonlight cascading through their curtained window, nuzzling her tear-stained face under his chin; she knew she was safe when in his arms, for he was her silver-lining in the darkest of abysses.
