11,11,11:00am 1918. The end of the great war lead to many things. Many of them were mistakes and failures. This is the tale of two stories, two presidents, and what they represented.
11,11,11:00am 2018.
A forty year old man marches to the graves of countrymen dead 100 years. He lugs through mud reminded of the trenches his ancestors died in for his freedom. He stands silently, as still and peaceful as an empty no-man's land. Respecting his fallen countrymen and celebrating in their victory. He is strong and focused like the great general Espresey. Yet he stands by the leader of his once enemy. He knows the cost of war and what it wroght these men. So he made a friend and a great ally of his old enemy. He is a true symbol of peace and strength.
A seventy year old man abandons the march and cries loudly about the rain, forgetting the men that died for him. He rages like the machineguns cutting down his men, or Pershing the reckless spender of lives. He ignores our victory as if it was worthless, and the lives lost with it. He shuns our allies and old enemies too, a mistake that led to two. He ignores history and the cost of war. I see a symbol of hatred and closure from the world.
I hope it won't take another pearl harbor to break our isolation this time. We are the bastion of democracy, leaders of the west. Yet here we are, repeating the mistakes of our forefathers. Is this another picture in failure, of history repeating?
AN: I know this may upset some, but I love history. That these men might not be honored for the weather sickens me. May these men rest in peace and know that we don't forget them, or the sacrifices made.
