History tells us the Echidna's were wiped out by Chaos, God of Destruction. History, while usually reliable, is in this case, so very wrong….Chaos was, in fact, defending the Echidna's from something so evil, the balance of the world trembled before it. This evil was so powerful that Chaos could not fight it alone. Nazo, though evil himself, fought alongside Chaos against this unnamed evil, and after managing to wound the evil, was defeated and retreated to within the Chaos Emeralds. Nazo's sacrifice was great enough that Chaos was able to weaken it enough to seal it within the 14 year-old child from who it had come, the last survivor of a powerful, immortal race. Chaos and Tikal were sealed within the Master Emerald, and the child was put in a hibernation of sorts. With the fight over, and all participants gone or sealed away, the small remainder of the Echidna's created a tablet, which would be both past and prophecy, for they knew the evil wasn't gone. They passed down the legends of the dark being, calling it the Dark Hunter, for it hunted down every Echidna it could find. As the years passed, the number of Echidna's dropped until one small family was all that was left.
In the year 1963, a scientist by the name of Gerald Robotnik found the slumbering immortal. Having heard legends, rather than wake the being, he took a small sample from one of its quills. Later on in the year, on the Space Colony ARK, he combined the quill sample and the blood of the alien overlord Black Doom, in order to create the Ultimate Lifeform.
40 years later, the sleeping immortal awoke, but his memories were gone. Not knowing what else to do, the immortal dedicated his speed and strength to saving the world, usually from an Ivo Robotnik, though often from different threats as well. The Dark Hunter, though sealed, still made two appearances, both in times of great stress and anger.
The first time was deep within space, fighting a threat that called themselves the Metarex. One of these Metarex captured a Seedrian by the name of Cosmo. Finding her captured as bait for himself, the immortal lost his subconscious control of the evil and it was let loose upon the unsuspecting Metarex. Surprisingly enough, it was Ivo Robotnik that was able to coax the immortal into regaining control. Ivo Robotnik was the only surviving witness to this incident.
The second time was when Nazo awoke once again from within the Chaos Emeralds. With Tails nearly dead, and Shadow and Knuckles unconscious, the immortal once again lost control of his anger. The only witness was Nazo, who was once again defeated and sealed within the Chaos Emeralds. Unaware of the growing plot against him, the immortal continued on as usual, as his enemies plotted to release the darkness within…
