Meredith drove down the interstate. She glanced in the rearview mirror at the u-haul trailer behind her. She sighed. It was one of sadness, tiredness and relief. She came close to turning around many times but she kept on going mile after mile.

A familiar song came on the radio and suddenly her mind was filled with memories, some good ones and some bad ones. Tears filled her eyes. Was she doing the right thing? She wiped the tears away. Of course she was. She would never become her own person if she stayed. She would never be able to be herself…her true self. She knew if she had stayed or went back that things would never change. She looked in the rearview mirror again.

"Don't look back" she said to herself out loud.

It was then she saw the sign…Seattle 30 miles. She smiled. Almost there. Just then her cell phone rang. She saw the number and let it ring letting the voice mail picked up. A minute later she heard a beep. Another message. She looked at the phone again 67 missed calls.

Just a few days ago she told him she was leaving.

"Why are you going home?"

"I just can't stay here. I need to go home and start over. Regroup and focus on myself. I can't do that with you here. We are over" she said as she finished packing up her things.

"Meredith please. I love you. I see how wrong I was before."

"I'm sorry I just can't do it anymore. The only reason you want me now is because I am leaving. In a month it will be back to 'I need my space or whatever'. I can't do it anymore."

"So we will see other people. Just stay…please" his voice was desperate.

"Yeah so all of your friends can go back and tell you who they see me out with and what I was doing. You can get mad at me and then I spend the night begging you not to be mad at me. No thanks. We have done that and it doesn't work"

"Mer…"

"I am tired of being here when it is convienient for you. I want someone to love me all of the time…not just for a 2 am booty call"

Meredith picked up her bag and stormed out the door leaving him there in shock.

Lost in her thoughts Meredith drifted over onto the ruble strips. She gently veered her car back on the road. Fifteen miles to Seattle.
