Sleepless

It's five in the morning. Lee is training and Neji secretly watches him. He wonders what in Gods name posses him to wake up at this time of day to watch the other boy move. He's mesmerized, though he refuses to believe he is. He tells himself that watching is a form of training, he justifies the fact that he's been watching the boy like this, seated on the tallest branch of the tree closest to Lee's training ground. Deep down he knows that isn't right.
Hyuuga Neji enjoys the sight of Rock Lee when in full concentration. It reminds him of what he can't be, of what he can't have. Neji is considered a prodigy. He never needs to give effort into his work because he's always perfect. He doesn't know what it's like to dedicate himself to something, to be willing to give his life in order to protect that one important thing not because of obligation, but because it's important. When he sees Lee, he thinks he understands.
Neji jumps down from his branch, landing with a soft thud, inaudible to the untrained ear. Lee doesn't turn around.
"Have you finally decided to join me, Neji-san?"
He doesn't speak, but Lee already knows the answer.
Lee dodges Neji's kick while giving a punch of his own.
