Disclaimer: Square Enix owns Final Fantasy VI

This idea was inspired by two things. One, on the Final Fantasy wiki, Kefka was said to be an orphan from Thamasa. Two, Strago's neighbor's house looked pretty big and had many rooms inside (fire scene) so I'm just assuming that that house used to be the orphanage.

Strago looked at the orphanage in front of him. For almost 50 years he lived across from that building, and now it was closed. Someone bought it, wanting to convert it into a house. He found the act sickening, since many orphans were now being sent from a home they've known for years to a city called Vector, which seemed to rise up out of nowhere. Nothing seemed right about this to Strago.

He walked up to the front door to see if he could help them in any way, but as he did he ran into a young blond boy. Taken back, the old man knelt in front of the boy. "Say… what's your name, little fella?"

The boy was obviously shy. He looked to the ground and said nothing.

Strago smiled and put a hand in the boy's hair, ruffling it. "My name is Strago," he said, hoping to help the boy feel comfortable.

Still, the boy said nothing.

The headmistress walked up to the two. "Hello, Strago. I haven't spoken to you for quite some time."

"The boy seems quiet," Strago said.

The headmistress blinked. "Yes… he is. 'Tis a pity we have to move our foundation to Vector. The poor soul hasn't even left Thamasa since we found him on our doorstep years ago."

Strago nodded. "Yes, 'tis a pity." As the headmistress walked away, Strago ruffled the child's hair again. "Bye, young lad. I hope you'll enjoy living in Vector. I've never been there, and in my old age I probably never will go there. But I hope you enjoy it there."

The boy smiled. "Me too."

Strago grinned. "I just know you'll be a productive member of society one day." He pulled something out of his pocket. "Here… I want you to have this," he said, giving the object to the boy.

The boy's grin grew wider. "Thanks, Mr. Strago!"

Strago hugged the boy. "You're welcome. Good luck, young lad!"

The headmistress' voice was heard from the distance. "C'mon, Kefka! We're leaving soon!"

The boy ran off. "Coming! Bye, Mr. Strago!"

Strago waved the boy off. "Good-bye, Kefka!"

Strago's eyes widened as Locke pulled the treasure out of the chest. "No way…"

Relm noticed her grandfather's shock. "Gramps? You're not having a heart attack, are ya?"

Strago took the Soul of Thamasa and held it in his hands, a tear falling from his face. "N-No… I'm fine…" He took a good look at the object in his hands. The object Strago gave the boy over twenty years ago.

"My, how Vector has corrupted you, young lad…"
