The Lifespan of a Moment
In slow motion, the blast is beautiful.
Even from the ground, I can see his eyes reflect pillars of ash and flame; vermilion drips from his lashes, stains two cheeks, and I wonder if Sasuke hurts.
Maybe, through the Sharingan of a newly avenged clan, he can finally see what he's done.
This, I think and I ask while I die and I wonder, until everything finally makes sense and I can appreciate that yes, the present doesn't look like any future three twelve year olds envisioned, this is cruel.
Piles of earth smash and snarl beneath me, rubble and dirt become a thundering sea, until suddenly, my numb body is covered even further in debris.
Akatsuki arrived in Konoha four hours ago, efficiently shearing any vestige of peace with soulless murder.
The traitor Uchiha Sasuke arrived in Konoha seven hours ago, grasping any vestige of his sanity with bloody fingers.
"If you joined the Akatsuki, why did you warn us?!"
It was almost… typical. The Akatsuki.
Like all true sinners, they knew and followed the same doctrine- to desiccate the flow of life, through any means possible. I understood that each coveted destruction for different reasons, and not long ago, I thought I even understood why Sasuke did too.
His path was either revenge or insanity; it wasn't too hard to understand the boy's lust for blood. This time however, the only blood Sasuke sought was his own.
"Did you plan this Sasuke?!"
Truth be told, it came as no surprise. Some empty shells could only be filled with redemption, and empty shells were what every restless avenger was bound become.
And Uchiha Sasuke was bound to seek redemption the only way he knew.
"ANSWER ME!"
Naruto's command pierces my wavering consciousness and for one bright, bright moment, the inky stains shading my vision clear.
Is that Naruto standing?
The air around him seems to be shifting, solidifying, burning a vivid sort of red…
And why is he holding Sasuke's katana?
Am I--
The ground pulses with yet another devastating tremor, until darkness spills across my vision one last time and some far, far away echo is screaming my name…
"SAKURA-CHAN!"
What a painful, painful wail.
But please, just give me another moment's rest, Naruto.
Another moment…. And why do I feel like I'm twelve again?
Oh, but now I see a weak girl, and how she punches through dark times... a lonely boy, and how he loves for the sake of peaceful times... a beautiful boy, and how his life took an ugly turn too many times... and they are all so, so familiar.
This is a pleasant moment.
I'm dreaming on a dying battlefield, while my best friend is savagely losing to his demon, and my beloved enemy is smiling into a pool of his own life, finding sweet tranquility in our final hour.
"IS THIS IT?!"
For another moment, I wonder if it's too late.
I know my answer is as sure as the fading Konoha sky.

Author's note~
okay, it's all sorts of lame but I just had to write something for Naruto before 2010 lol
I really don't think the series will end like this, but I'd love to hear your opinion! (hint, hint)
Constructive criticism is always appreciated ;)
First line is from a very beautiful Snow Patrol song entitled "Somewhere a Clock is Ticking"… I don't have the link, but youtube was created for a reason- check it outttt (;
Oh, and no I don't own Naruto. Or Snow Patrol. Or a new Blackberry…poo:(
