Lady Kel slept better. Now that the dreams had stopped; now that she'd killed Blayce and destroyed his workshop. Now that there would be no more killing machines manufactured from the souls of dead children.

But Tobe slept worse. With the dreams, when she talked in her sleep, he knew she was there. That she hadn't left him. When she muttered and mumbled and tossed during the night, he knew he wasn't alone.

But now, there was silence. Now Tobe had to listen carefully; every night half-awake, attuned to every sound. She couldn't be allowed to leave him ever again.
